Day 4, 14Nov 2009

...15.07 miles from Kahalu`u to Hau`ula Beach Park...

Day 4 started with the Kahalu`u United Methodist Church women putting together a breakfast...

... to see us out the door to start our day's effort.

[Day_04.01-03]

Out in the parking lot, Utu lead us with some encouraging words and prayer...

[Day_04.04]

...and then it was off to find the shore break at the Hau`ula Beach Park where we'll be spending the night tonight.[Day_04.05-07]

There're a lotta churches on the windward country side...[Day_04.08-10]

...even First Assembly is on litter patrol up here![Day_04.11]

more walking...[Day_04.12-14]

Robert has been leading each day's walkers in a short "loosening up/stretching" routine every morning."[Day_04.15]

Ruth came out to join us just for today.[Day_04.16]

There was more walking...[Day_04.17-19]

We had lunch at Swanzy Beach Park.[Day_04.20-22]

Oh yeah...we walked some more...[Day_04.23-25]

This guy seemed interested in going on a walk...but I couldn't get him to sign the liability release form.

Sorry, fellah, rules are rules![Day_04.26]

Man, this is the longest 15 miles I've ever walked![Day_04.27-29]

We passed Chinamen's Hat...[Day_04.30]

...and the famous Crouching Lion lava formation, name sake for the Crouching Lion Inn and Bar...[Day_04.31]

...and...finally...arrive at the Hau`ula Beach Park where Pastor Luke from the "Church Without Walls" had the sheltler assembled you see below that he uses weekly to house his ministry.[Day_04.32-34]

Tonight's hospitality...well, we're actually camping...in Pastor Luke's home brew structure as we're at the beach park right across the street from the 711. We were under tarpaulins flapping in the breeze when I originally qwerty'd this. No rain came in... though we did get several bursts in the 17-18 hours we were there...the "leak holes" I wondered about didn't show in my space. Cold water beach shower heads and public rest rooms tonight. But the evening meal was provided by the Jehovah Jireh ministry within the Hau`ula Greater Mount Zion Holiness Church.

Pastor Luke's generator was quiet and effective...though the flakiness of my ether connection required me to finish this at the end of Day 5.

  1. Well, after a couple days of no contact, I see you're still qwerten so you must be alive, and amazingly, still able to connect with just the toys in your backpack, rain & all. Very cool to see on the ground action & people & places. Would like to see more close-ups & conversations of people in walk & those you meet. Keep on walkin & talkin ..& qwertin. Bro James in WA.

  2. Critical comment noted...format changes in presentation are being learned/made.

As frustrating as it is, what little I am getting up is very thrilling to see. This technology challenge has a solution that still needs discovery.
